Safety Precautions

Read all instructions before use. Failure to follow safety guidelines may result in fire, electric shock, or battery explosion.

  1. Use only with lead-acid batteries. Do not charge dry-cell, lithium, or non-rechargeable batteries.
  2. Ensure area is well-ventilated. Batteries produce explosive gases during charging.
  3. Connect clamps to battery terminals before plugging charger into AC outlet.
  4. Do not touch clamps together while charger is powered on.
  5. Keep charger dry and away from moisture, heat sources, and flammable materials.

WARNING! Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with batteries. Ensure proper polarity (RED to POSITIVE, BLACK to NEGATIVE).

Installation & Setup

Unpack charger and inspect for damage. Verify battery type and voltage (6V or 12V).

  1. Position charger: Place on stable, dry surface near battery but away from engine and moving parts.
  2. Prepare battery: Clean terminals; ensure battery is securely mounted and vent caps are tight.
  3. Connect clamps: Attach RED clamp to positive (+) terminal; BLACK clamp to negative (-) terminal.
  4. Set voltage: Turn mode switch to 6V or 12V position matching battery voltage.
  5. Plug in: Connect AC power cord to 120V outlet. Charger will begin automatically.

CAUTION! Do not connect to a frozen battery. Thaw completely before charging.

Specifications

Controls and Indicators

Front Panel: Voltage Selector Switch (6V/12V), Ammeter, Power/Charge LED, Cooling Fan Vents.

LED Indicators: GREEN (power on/standby), RED (charging in progress), FLASHING RED (fault condition).

Ammeter: Needle indicates charging current. Higher current when battery is low; drops as battery approaches full charge.

Mode Switch: Selects battery voltage. Must match battery system. Incorrect setting may damage battery.

Charging Procedures

Follow steps for automatic charging. For manual mode, refer to advanced section.

  1. Verify battery voltage and type.
  2. Connect clamps (RED to +, BLACK to -).
  3. Set voltage switch to correct position.
  4. Plug charger into AC outlet. LED turns RED, fan starts.
  5. Monitor ammeter: Needle will show high initial current, then gradually decrease.
  6. Completion: When battery is fully charged, ammeter will drop to near zero, LED may turn GREEN.
  7. Disconnect: Unplug AC cord first, then remove BLACK clamp, then RED clamp.

Tip: For deeply discharged batteries, charging may take several hours. Do not leave unattended for extended periods.

Maintenance & Storage

Unplug and clean after each use. Store in dry, cool location.

  1. Cleaning: Wipe exterior with dry cloth. Do not use liquids or solvents.
  2. Clamp Care: Keep clamps clean and free of corrosion. Light sanding if necessary.
  3. Cord Inspection: Check AC cord and clamp wires for damage before each use.
  4. Storage: Coil cords neatly; store in original box or protective case.

CAUTION! Do not disassemble charger. No user-serviceable parts inside.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Charger not turning onNo AC power / faulty outletCheck outlet with another device; ensure cord is fully plugged in.
No charging current (ammeter at 0)Incorrect connections / dead batteryVerify polarity; check battery voltage with multimeter; clean terminals.
LED flashing redReverse polarity / short circuitDisconnect immediately; verify RED to +, BLACK to -; check for cable shorts.
Charger overheating / fan not runningBlocked vents / fan failureUnplug; allow to cool; ensure vents are clear; do not use if fan is inoperative.
Battery not holding chargeOld / sulfated batteryBattery may be defective; test battery condition; replace if necessary.
Ammeter reading high continuouslyBattery deeply discharged / wrong voltage settingAllow time for charge to taper; verify voltage switch matches battery.

Reset: Unplug charger, disconnect clamps, wait 2 minutes, then restart procedure.
