The Cen-Tech 96308 is a versatile digital clamp meter designed for measuring AC/DC voltage, AC current, resistance, continuity, and diode testing. It features a large LCD display, data hold function, auto power-off, and a built-in non-contact voltage (NCV) sensor. Ideal for electricians, technicians, and DIY enthusiasts for troubleshooting electrical circuits and appliances. Below are key sections for safety, features, operation, specifications, and troubleshooting.
Key components: Digital clamp jaw, Function selector dial, LCD display, Test lead inputs, NCV sensor tip, Data Hold button, Power button.
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Clamp Jaw | Measures AC current without breaking the circuit (up to 400A) |
| Function Dial | Selects measurement mode (V~, V=, A~, Ω, Continuity, Diode) |
| LCD Display | 3.5 digit, 2000 count display with backlight |
| Test Lead Inputs | COM (black) and VΩ (red) jacks for voltage/resistance tests |
| NCV Sensor | Non-contact voltage detection with audible/visual alert |
| Data Hold | Freezes reading on display |
| Auto Power-Off | Conserves battery after 15 minutes of inactivity |
| Continuity Buzzer | Audible tone for low resistance (<70Ω) |
| Diode Test | Measures forward voltage drop |
| Low Battery Indicator | Displays when battery voltage is low |
Read all instructions before use. This meter is designed for indoor use on circuits not exceeding 600V CAT III.
WARNING! Risk of electric shock. Use extreme caution when working with high voltage. Never use on wet surfaces or with wet hands.
Familiarize yourself with meter components before operation.
CAUTION! Always turn function dial to OFF position when not in use to preserve battery.
Turn function dial to desired measurement. Connect test leads if required.
AC Voltage: Set dial to V~. Insert black lead in COM, red in VΩ. Touch probes to circuit. Read display.
DC Voltage: Set dial to V=. Observe polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
AC Current: Set dial to A~. Ensure no test leads are connected. Open clamp, place around single conductor, close clamp. Center conductor in jaw for accuracy.
Resistance: Set dial to Ω. Ensure circuit is de-energized. Connect probes across component.
Continuity: Set dial to Ω (continuity symbol). Audible beep indicates circuit continuity.
Diode Test: Set dial to diode symbol. Red lead to anode, black to cathode. Display shows forward voltage (0.5V-0.8V typical).
Detects live voltage without physical contact.
Tip: NCV detection range is limited. Always verify with direct voltage measurement when safety is critical.
Replace batteries when low battery icon appears.
WARNING! Do not operate meter with battery cover removed. Risk of electric shock.
Clean with dry cloth only. Store in protective case when not in use.
CAUTION! Do not use solvents or abrasives. Keep away from moisture, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields.

| Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| No display | Dead batteries | Replace batteries. Ensure polarity is correct. |
| Inaccurate reading | Low battery/incorrect range | Replace batteries. Select proper function/range. |
| Clamp not reading current | Clamp not closed/around multiple wires | Ensure clamp fully closed around single conductor. |
| Continuity buzzer not sounding | High resistance/leads not connected | Check for open circuit. Ensure leads make good contact. |
| NCV not detecting voltage | Weak signal/battery low | Move sensor closer. Replace batteries. |
| Display shows "OL" | Overload/out of range | Select higher range. Check if circuit is open. |
Reset: Turn meter OFF and remove batteries for 30 seconds to reset microprocessor.
