Safety Precautions

Read all instructions before use. Use only as specified.

  1. Do not use if meter or test leads are damaged.
  2. Do not measure voltage above 600V AC/DC.
  3. When measuring current, ensure proper jack selection and series connection.
  4. Disconnect test leads from circuit before changing function.
  5. Replace battery when low battery indicator appears.

WARNING! Risk of electric shock. Do not use on energized circuits above 30V AC rms, 42V peak, or 60V DC. Ensure proper fuse rating when replacing.

Getting Started

Unpack meter, test leads, and manual. Inspect for damage.

  1. Install battery: Open battery compartment, insert 9V battery.
  2. Connect test leads: Black to COM, red to VΩmA (for most measurements).
  3. Turn rotary switch to desired function (e.g., V~ for AC voltage).
  4. Power on: Some models have a separate POWER button; others power on via rotary switch.
  5. Test continuity: Touch probe tips together; buzzer should sound.

CAUTION! Verify meter is working properly before use. Do not exceed input limits.

Specifications

Controls and Display

Front Panel: Rotary Function Switch, LCD Display, Input Jacks, HOLD Button.

Display Symbols: "OL" (Overload), AC/DC, Low Battery, Hold, units (V, A, Ω, mV, mA).

Rotary Switch Positions: OFF, V~ (AC Voltage), V⎓ (DC Voltage), A⎓ (DC Current), Ω (Resistance), ))) (Continuity), Diode Symbol. Functions: Auto-ranging on some models; manual range selection on others via switch. Data Hold: Press HOLD to freeze reading; press again to release.

Measurement Procedures

Always start with meter set to highest range if unknown value.

  1. AC/DC Voltage: Set switch to V~ or V⎓. Connect leads in parallel to circuit. Read display.
  2. DC Current: Set to A⎓. For <200mA, use VΩmA jack; for up to 10A, use 10A jack. Connect in series with circuit.
  3. Resistance: Set to Ω. Ensure circuit is de-energized. Connect across component.
  4. Continuity: Set to ))). Connect across path; buzzer indicates continuity (<70Ω).
  5. Diode Test: Set to diode symbol. Connect red to anode, black to cathode; typical forward voltage 0.5-0.8V.

Tip: For accurate readings, ensure test leads have good contact and circuit is stable.

Battery Replacement

Replace battery when low battery icon appears or display dims.

  1. Turn meter OFF and disconnect test leads.
  2. Remove screw(s) from battery compartment cover.
  3. Remove old 9V battery.
  4. Insert new 9V battery (check polarity).
  5. Replace cover and secure screw(s).

WARNING! Do not operate meter with low battery. Dispose of old battery properly.

Care & Maintenance

Keep meter clean and dry. Store in protective case.

  1. Clean with dry cloth only; do not use solvents.
  2. Inspect test leads regularly for cracks or exposed wire.
  3. Calibrate periodically for accurate measurements.
  4. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

CAUTION! Do not expose to extreme temperatures, moisture, or dust. Avoid dropping.

Regulatory Information

Complies with relevant safety standards (e.g., IEC 61010). This is a CAT II 600V rated meter for measurements on circuits directly connected to low-voltage installations. Copyright © Cen-Tech. For support, contact Harbor Freight Tools or visit www.harborfreight.com.
