Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Ensure vehicle is off before connecting.

  1. Locate DLC: Find the 16-pin OBD II diagnostic connector under the dashboard near the steering column.
  2. Connect cable: Plug the code reader's cable firmly into the vehicle's DLC.
  3. Power on: Turn the vehicle's ignition to the ON (RUN) position. Do not start the engine.
  4. Reader activation: The code reader will power on automatically via the DLC.

WARNING! Ensure vehicle is in Park (automatic) or Neutral with parking brake engaged (manual). Do not connect/disconnect while engine is running.

First-Time Setup

No complex setup required. Basic readiness check.

  1. Vehicle readiness: Ensure the vehicle's battery is charged (at least 12V).
  2. Ignition position: Turn key to ON (RUN) position. Check Engine Light should illuminate.
  3. Code reader display: Screen should light up and show welcome or ready message.
  4. Initial code scan: Press the READ button to perform first diagnostic scan.

CAUTION! Do not use with hybrid/electric vehicle high-voltage systems. For 12V systems only.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Device has minimal controls for ease of use.

Front Panel: READ Button, ERASE/CLEAR Button, LCD Display.

Operation: READ - Initiates scan and displays codes. ERASE - Clears stored codes from ECU and turns off MIL (if conditions are met). Display shows codes (e.g., P0300) and brief definition. No user settings or menu required.

Connecting to Vehicle

Direct connection to OBD II port.

  1. Ensure ignition is OFF.
  2. Locate the 16-pin DLC (typically under dash, driver's side).
  3. Align connector and plug in code reader cable firmly.
  4. Turn ignition to ON (RUN). Engine should be off.
  5. Observe code reader power-up.

Tip: If reader doesn't power on, check vehicle battery charge and connection. Wiggle connector to ensure proper contact.

Reading and Clearing Codes

Core functions of the code reader.

  1. Reading Codes:
    • With ignition ON and reader connected, press the READ button.
    • Reader communicates with vehicle's ECU. "Scanning..." may display.
    • Stored DTCs will appear on screen one by one (e.g., P0420).
    • Brief definition may scroll or display below the code.
    • If no codes are stored, it will display "No Codes" or similar.
  2. Clearing Codes:
    • After reading codes, press the ERASE button to clear.
    • Confirm action if prompted (some models).
    • Display will show "Erasing..." or "Codes Cleared".
    • The Check Engine Light (MIL) should turn off.
    • Note: Clearing codes will also reset readiness monitors.

WARNING! Clear codes only after diagnosing the problem. Clearing codes does not fix the underlying issue.

Code Definitions

The code reader displays generic code definitions. Codes are 5-digit alphanumeric.

Example: P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected.

For detailed repair information, refer to vehicle service manual after retrieving codes.

Care & Maintenance

Keep reader clean and stored properly.

  1. Disconnect from vehicle before cleaning.
  2. Wipe exterior with a soft, dry cloth.
  3. Do not use liquids, solvents, or abrasives.
  4. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  5. Do not pull on the cable to disconnect; grip the connector.

CAUTION! Do not immerse in water or other liquids. Protect from physical impact and dropping.
