Centech OBD2 Scanner Manual

The Centech OBD2 Scanner is a professional-grade automotive diagnostic tool designed to read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from vehicles compliant with OBD-II standards. It supports all 10 OBD2 test modes, displays live sensor data, performs I/M readiness tests, and features a large backlit LCD screen, one-click operation, and built-in DTC lookup library. Getting Started

Power on Scanner after connecting to vehicle.

  1. Locate OBD-II port: Typically under dashboard near steering column.
  2. Connect cable: Plug OBD-II connector into vehicle port, other end into scanner.
  3. Turn ignition to ON position (engine can be off for code reading).
  4. Scanner will power on automatically; follow on-screen prompts.
  5. Select language: Default is ENGLISH.
  6. Choose vehicle make/model/year if prompted for enhanced diagnostics.

CAUTION! Ensure vehicle is in Park with parking brake engaged before connecting.

Scanner Controls & Display

Front Panel: POWER/ENTER Button, UP/DOWN Arrow Buttons, EXIT/MENU Button, READ Button.

Display Icons: Battery indicator, Communication status, Code type (P, C, B, U), Live data labels.

Main Menu Options: Read Codes, Clear Codes, Live Data, I/M Readiness, DTC Lookup, View Freeze Frame, Vehicle Info, Settings. Settings Menu: Language selection, Screen contrast, Units (Metric/Imperial), Clear Memory.

Connecting to Vehicle

OBD-II Port: Standard 16-pin connector under dash.

  1. Turn ignition OFF before connecting scanner.
  2. Firmly plug OBD-II cable into vehicle port until it clicks.
  3. Connect other end to scanner's input port.
  4. Turn ignition to ON (engine off or on). Scanner boots automatically.
  5. If no communication, check ignition is ON and connection is secure.

Tip: For continuous use, start engine to prevent vehicle battery drain.

Reading & Clearing Codes

Reads generic (P0, P2, P3) and manufacturer-specific codes.

  1. From main menu, select "Read Codes" or press READ button.
  2. Scanner communicates with ECU and displays number of codes found.
  3. Press ENTER to view each code (e.g., P0300) and description.
  4. To clear codes, return to main menu, select "Clear Codes".
  5. Confirm clearing when prompted. This will reset Check Engine Light.
  6. After clearing, perform a Read Codes again to confirm all codes are cleared.
  7. Note: Some codes may require multiple drive cycles to be permanently cleared.

WARNING! Clearing codes erases freeze frame data. Record codes before clearing for repair reference.

Viewing Live Data

Displays real-time sensor and system parameters.

  1. From main menu, select "Live Data".
  2. Choose PID (Parameter ID) group or view all available PIDs.
  3. Use UP/DOWN to scroll through data items: Engine RPM, Coolant Temp, Vehicle Speed, MAF, Oxygen Sensor voltages, etc.
  4. Data updates in real-time; values change as engine operates.
  5. Select specific PID to view graph for trend analysis.

Note: Not all PIDs are supported by every vehicle. Available data depends on vehicle's ECU.

Maintenance & Care

Store in protective case when not in use. Clean with dry, soft cloth only.

CAUTION! Do not expose to extreme temperatures, moisture, or direct sunlight for prolonged periods. Do not disassemble unit.

Troubleshooting
